On Saturday, November 5 at 12:00 p.m., we invite migrant artists to participate in a networking meeting at the Promotion Gallery in the Staromiejski Dom Kultury.
Three speakers Katie Zazenski, Agnieszka Dragon and Michalina Sablik will give short lectures about: the artistic media in Poland, art institutions and Warsaw cultural centres and the possibilities of cooperation. Then there will be a place for artists to show their portfolio and network.
Katie Zazenski - artist, curator, director of Stroboskop Art Space, writer and editor for BLOK magazine. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at public and private institutions including the San Diego Art Institute (US), the Zachęta National Gallery of Art (PL), the Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius (LT). Her current studio practice, Shelley Odradek, in collaboration with Aleksandra Andrzejewska, was developed during a residency at the Center for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle (PL) in 2020. Focusing on expressions of self in digital_physical space, Shelley has worked with Warszawa Biennale, Digital Artist Residency, and the University of North Carolina, with forthcoming projects at Foksal Gallery (PL) and Tallinn Art Hall (EE). Zazenski received her MFA in Sculpture from the Cranbrook Academy of Art (US) and is a two-time Fulbright Research Fellow to Poland.
Agnieszka Dragon - community practitioner, project coordinator, researcher. Her practice explores the identity of various communities through hands-on involvement. She works in Pałacyk Konopackiego (Cultural Centre „Praga”), where she organizes events, residency projects and supports community in the implementation of their ideas. She is currently making research on social capital within the community of allotment gardeners. Initiator of the Stołeczna Grupa Nasienna (Capital Seed Group), member of Zasiej Association.
Michalina Sablik - art historian, critic and curator. PhD student at the University of Warsaw, member of AICA. She works at the Promocyjna Gallery in the Staromiejski Dom Kultury in Warsaw, and cooperates with many magazines and institutions. Part of Dzidy duo. Last year, together with Kamil the First, she prepared the exhibition "In these days of tumult, heat and dazzle I retreat in my mind" at the Stefan Gierowski Foundation in Warsaw.
Migrart.waw.pl is the first online platform presenting the profiles and works of migrant artists living in Warsaw, enabling networking and cooperation of people of different cultural origins with institutions and organizations from the culture and art sector.
It is a database of contacts, but also regular networking meetings, where we invite all migrant artists who want to share their experiences of working in culture in Warsaw.
